Womp. The database was corrupted and I had to use a backup from 2018 (in 2021). Sorry for any data loss. A server update also broke a bunch of the site (I've got it mostly working, but some things may still be busted). Another unrelated server update also busted the way my wii homebrew connected to the site (so none of them can go online anymore and they may never change). Have I mentioned that I've had problems with this cheap web host?
You can check out whatever new projects I have in the works over on twitter at @BoringDevKate.

It helps keeps all our new ideas and suggestions in one place without scattering them everywhere else. I'm also happy to say that it's been well used since I first made this thread. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.
The most we can do now is keep this thread alive and keep those ideas and suggestions rolling. Feel free to post anything related that might help Wii Chatter in terms of functionality or extra content. =)

Comment posted by lyzysyvs at 2014-09-15 00:43:58 (11 years ago)I agree completely, Sky! Here's my list (a cross-post but oh well):
Expanded physical keyboard support. Full Extended (8bit) ASCII would be nice!
Paging of comments. Let's kill the effectiveness of flooding once and for all!
Collapse consecutive identical posts into a single post with a count showing the number of collapsed posts. Now this would just be cool!
Online access on this web site to full history. Am I asking for too much?!

Comment posted by Oskar at 2014-09-15 16:25:59 (11 years ago)No, you're not asking for too much. Although, these ideas could be taken into consideration.

Comment posted by Oskar at 2015-06-20 03:11:08 (10 years ago)I high doubt this site will ever ever... EVER get updated again but if it did... it would need to be more modernized like the forums of other websites.
Also, here's a suggestion...
Current situation: Every profile shows ONLY the most 15 recent comments.
How it should be: Every profile should be able to show all comments since the beginning of when they were first posted. Instead of having to scroll to the way bottom, how about moving the chat box to the top instead and change the layout in reverse. (Example: Latest posts go on top and the earliest posts go to the way bottom.)
Also, instead of having to scroll down to the bottom, why not develop a numbering system where all the posts remain separated within each number. (Example: There would be 10 to 20 posts per page?)

Comment posted by Oskar at 2015-06-20 03:22:41 (10 years ago)Another suggestion...
Enable Wii Chatter for computer and mobile users as well. Let's face it, the Wii U has long gone buried the Wii underground. Sure, it's cool to make Wii Chatter exclusive solely for the purpose of "Wii users only" but it feels more of a chore to flail the Wii remote around the screen in hopes typing out a full sentence which can get very tedious. Unlike the Wii (which I personally never even turn on anymore other than to play Smash Bros. Project M, some other game mod, or an emulator), something like a PC would offer more freedom and enables users to type out much faster without having it feel like a hassle.
Let's pump a little life back into this site. For sure, I'd definetly be on more often if Wii Chatter was made not just "for the Wii ONLY."

Comment posted by Oskar at 2015-06-20 03:30:09 (10 years ago)Well then... if there's more people here... there would be more support for PayPal donations, right? :]

Comment posted by MaxxMurph at 2015-06-24 05:57:36 (10 years ago)This site has great potential, its just focused on something dead. Now if you made it a general site about hacking or video games then that would be a great impovment. First you need the traffic though, like starrr pointed out donaters are needed. I mean if you had a paypal donation, i would throw in 20 dollars. And yes main chat room needes to be moved to site for P.C's or smartphones. This set up isn't that bad for never being updated, but major updates need to happen... If only there was just someone to spread the word.

Comment posted by Oskar at 2015-06-24 18:54:43 (10 years ago)Well, that's a good start. Hacking and Videogames... and this is based mostly around "Homebrewing" and "hacking" so that would be a great suggestion.

Comment posted by ThatOtherPerson at 2015-07-01 02:23:02 (10 years ago)I have thought about making the effort to port Wii Chatter to other platforms like DS, but if I make it possible to post to it from a web browser then it kinda loses its novelty and TBH I'm not sure what the point of it would be when you can already do the same thing here in the forum.
How would you suggest making it a more generalized site about hacking and video games (you can already make forum threads about those things)? I actually do accept PayPal donations (there's a link at the bottom of the sidebar on the right).
Any ideas for how to promote the site (other than buying ads)? Is there anything I could do to help you promote it? Like if I had the site automatically generate some kind of banner for each user (with like information about their account) that linked to their user page would you like actually use that and put it in your signature on other forums of other sites you use or whatever?

Comment posted by AkaLink77 at 2015-07-13 18:27:14 (10 years ago)put a normal key board... Wii chatter takes 2 long 2 type.

Comment posted by ThatOtherPerson at 2015-08-06 16:20:18 (10 years ago)I'm still here.
What kind of Facebook promoting?
I hope you don't mind that I added a second banner ad (the original one uses AdSense and the new/second one uses A-Ads because idk bitcoin is cool). You can block it with Adblock Plus. I don't expect to make much (if anything) from it...

Comment posted by Crazy92 at 2016-12-17 18:06:08 (8 years ago)Typing a capital letter by holding Shift with a Keyboard because whenever I hold Shift and push a letter nothing happens and can only write letters in lowercase when using a Keyboard
