Womp. The database was corrupted and I had to use a backup from 2018 (in 2021). Sorry for any data loss. A server update also broke a bunch of the site (I've got it mostly working, but some things may still be busted). Another unrelated server update also busted the way my wii homebrew connected to the site (so none of them can go online anymore and they may never change). Have I mentioned that I've had problems with this cheap web host?
You can check out whatever new projects I have in the works over on twitter at @BoringDevKate.

Do I need a DDR dance pad, or does it work like "Just Dance".

Comment posted by ThatOtherPerson at 2012-03-15 08:23:29 (13 years ago)You need a Dance Dance Revolution dance pad. You could use the directional buttons on a wiimote or a regular game cube controller but it's less fun that way. It doesn't have Just Dance style motion controls.

How do I get the DWI or SM files to work with Dance Clone? I have been trying to get Max 300 to work all week without success... The song plays perfectly, but I can only use a step chart generated by your program. Could you please help with this?
PS: Love the job you've done, especially given all the code dumps I get with Stepmania Wii... (Not knocking it, but I just get code dumps with it 24/7, can't even get past the main menu)

Also, as a follow on to the above (sorry, thought of it afterwards), have you considered or implemented USB support? I only have a 4GB SD card, as opposed to the 1TB USB HDD at my disposal... :D

Comment posted by ThatOtherPerson at 2012-09-03 20:56:02 (13 years ago)You can import SM files but it doesn't really work very well.
Here is an old copy/paste of instructions I posted as a comment on my dev blog:
to import a song you place the music file (mp3) and the step mania file (sm) in the music folder. then when your at the song selection screen just select the song (it lists all mp3s in the music folder). at the following screen click the button labeled “import step chart”. This will bring you to another screen which will list all of the sm files in the music folder. Just select the sm file that goes along with the music file you had previously selected. It will then generate a dc (that is the dance clone step chart format) based on the selected sm file and will give it the correct filename to associate it with selected mp3 file.
DWI files aren't supported yet and probably never will be. Ditto for USB support. Actually I think you might be able to play songs off of a USB storage device as long as that is also were you are loading the game from. But I honestly can't remember for sure. I haven't worked on Dance Clone in ages. I would like to remake it eventually but there are other things I'm more interested in working on so unless someone wants to money hat me it probably won't happen in the near future.

Much appreciated m8, since you know your stuff one more quick question, is it possible to convert DWI to SM? Thanks again!

Comment posted by ThatOtherPerson at 2012-09-11 19:26:22 (13 years ago)I've never done it but I think it's possible using Step Mania and I imagine someone has probably written a program specifically for converting them. Searching for convert DWI to SM on Google seems to return some useful result.
